And it's a pretty long game, took me almost 38 hours to beat. I thought the game was well-balanced on the whole, a bit on the easy side but I don't really mind that in such a long game. It feels a bit more fighting-game-y, with all the face buttons mapped to attack chains that you can mix and match as you please. The combat has been changed for the better. Very few tracks manage to push through to make you hear them as more than just background music, but as BGM it plays the role well.ДЄs for the combat, this is the game to sell a person on modern Tales. The music, while not a highlight for the most part, is good.

The graphics are much, much better - better designs, more detailed environments, and some pretty good lighting effects. In every single way, this game far surpasses Zestiria which it was co-developed with - seems they made the most of the extra year of dev time Berseria got. But, other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing this game :) 2: This game's ending ties into that game, which I understand that it probably had to, but I didn't find it satisfying or fulfilling. My only problem was that I wish this wasn't a prequel to Zestiria for two reasons: 1. Learning skills through mastering equipment was a nice system as well. The game also looks pretty and the music is also great. Plus, there is no need for grinding, which is always a welcome addition. One thing that bothers me about Tales games is that there are always some cheap bosses in every game, even on Normal difficulty, but thankfully, there weren't any in this one. I played on Normal so I found the combat to be easy to learn and abuse, which was perfect since I usually just want to avoid battles to get to the next story segment. Plus, you get to finally play as the bad guys! No more pure-hearted JRPG protagonists every single one of them is a selfish asshole and I loved it. It was super hard to pick my favorite character since all of them have unique personalities and undergo lots of character development. There are also a good amount of sidequests that worldbuild and add to character development. The story is intriguing from the start with lots of emotional, gripping, and epic moments.

It's the best Tales game in the series that I have played, and a phenomenal JRPG in its own right.

Everyone is the best :')ДЄbsolutely fantastic! I couldn't stop playing this masterpiece. There's definitely areas that could be improved but I just loved the story and characters so much it really doesn't hamper my enjoyment much. Traversing the map is slow until you get an item that let's you travel faster so backtracking early on can be a chore. Dungeons and overworld areas were pretty standard aside from a few standouts like Gaiburk Ice Field, Davahl Forest, and Palamides Temple. This might sound like the difficulty was nuked from orbit with a lack of a resource you must replenish but you'd be surprised on how challenging some of the bosses/stronger monsters could be and how quickly you'll be wiped out if you don't prepare. Combat is fast and fluid like Xillia but ditches MP to be more focused on chaining artes. I loved literally the entire playable cast to the moon and back and the supporting characters were also great more times than not (Dyle, Kurogane, Medissa, etc.).

It's not perfect by any means but the story and characters resonated with me unlike any RPG I played before.
